Holy Exploding Reading Page, Batman! I am not going to lie, I am struggling to keep up with my reading page right now. addme and addme_fandom are pretty much taking over. I've been using the journals only filter but still feeling a little like my head is exploding. I had no idea there was going to be quite such an influx from Tumblr. Wow. I'm assuming this will calm down after the end of the year when Tumblr finishes imploding and the dust settles?

One thing I'm noticing right now is how young everyone seems, and while there's plenty of Doctor Who, Marvel, DC, Harry Potter Star Trek, Stargate, Star Wars etc being mentioned... there's so many books and TV and movies and music and um animes and mangas that I've never even heard of! It's making me wish I had more hours in the day to investigate and read and watch and listen because I love to discover new things!

Although, having said that, I got my Spotify 2018 stats today and I'm thinking 'listen to more music, Sam!' is going to be a goal for 2019.
I spent 1224 minutes listening to music in 2018, that's only just over 20 hours. How awful is that?
Madonna was my top played artist, and I listened to her for 4 hours. My other top played artists were Erasure, The Police, Prince and Belinda.
My top played genres were rock, pop, indie, soul and rnb.
The oldest song I listened to was Quando Quando Quando by Engelbert Humperdinck which was recorded in 1968. I'm kind of hoping jackjanderson shares this stat, his could be really interesting since he tends to listen to classical and opera. Yes, Jack, that's a hint!


Not that I love my 80s pop music or anything haha.

There was something else I wanted to post about but I got distracted by that.

I'm hoping to catch up properly on my reading page at the weekend so if I've missed anything, I do apologise! Also at the weekend, I'm hoping to write some kind of proper intro/profile/welcome/about me page - I'm still struggling for ideas but reading through everyone else's. Any suggestions/comments more than welcome.

I listen to music every day, but I've definitely become one of those people who's musical tastes can be described by the younger crowd as "oldies." Lots of '80s pop, like you, but rock and hair bands, too, plus rock from the '60s and '70s, and a few oddball tunes from the '30s and '40s. The birth dates in my family were 1930, 1940, 1964, and 1975. It shows in my music. My son (2002) introduced me to the few newer songs on my playlist.

I hit my teens in the 80s so it's pretty much the decade that shaped a huge amount of who I am. It's when I started to really discover what I liked and who I was and that's really why I still listen to so much.

My husband listens mostly to classical, opera and is currently learning about jazz. Our girlfriend tends to like music in general, she often has the radio on around the house but given a choice she likes hair bands and soft rock as her favourite. The kids I teach are the ones who introduce me to newer songs, and some of them are ok but nothing that really sticks with me as things I want to keep listening to.

I am loving seeing my dash feed come alive on here again. I hope that most of these people will stick around. I've spent so much time commenting and replying to comments, that I haven't had time to post!

I don't have spotify, but I love 80s music. I like a lot of different music, actually, but I find that I listen to 80s music the most.

As a 20 year old who's tired of my fellow young people online, it's been really refreshing to come over to dreamwidth and not see all of drama and the like that usually comes with my peers (when tumblr finishes imploding, I will NOT miss that at all).

And my spotify playlist consists of my weird apple-picking taste of music. You'd think I'd pick something to listen to and stick with it for more then an hour, or like more then 1 song from a single artist, but nooooo.

One of my favourite features of Spotify is the playlists - I've always been more of a mixtape person than an album person and these wonderful long playlists are just brilliant

I get that some albums are meant to be listened to from start to finish in order to get the whole 'story', but there are one two or three artists that I'd sit through a whole album for. Give me variety!

Ahahaha, yes you are an 80s person, apparently. I find that although I grew up on 80s music, I like the 00s through now better. Who knows why my brain latches onto new music constantly.

One of my friends posted their Spotify wrap-up with seventeen thousand minutes listened. I was just like: damn, kid. He's a realtor, so he spends the day driving around, but still! I'm finding the Spotify wrap-ups very interesting. It kind of makes me want to use Spotify.

Seventeen THOUSAND minutes? That's something like 12 days worth of music listened. WOW. Although if he's driving round all day, I can see how it would build up but that's still somewhat mind blowing.

Right?! Someone else posted fourteen thousand and I'm just like HOW DO YOU DO THIS? Then I realized: I suppose if you sleep with it on, you rack up a bunch of hours. Seventeen thousand friend doesn't do that, but fourteen thousand friend does. So. SENSE-MAKING!

I've heard that some people will leave a particular artist playing overnight so they get a ridiculous number of plays to get the monies paid to the artist. I get it but I wouldn't want my stats screwed up!

I leave playlists going overnight because I can't sleep without music playing, but I also use Pandora, not Spotify. (I've been told I ought to rectify this. Many, many times. I'm just very lazy.)
