Slytherin Pride
May. 8th, 2018 12:35 pmSlytherin may always get a bad reputation. Yes, it's produced it's fair share of dark witches and wizards but not every Slytherin student is evil, and not only Slytherins are bad. Peter Pettigrew, after all, was a Gryffindor and Quirrell was in Ravenclaw. The reputation definitely lead to a prejudice about the house - that they value pure blood families and favour the dark arts. There were many good witches and wizards in the house who oppose the use of the Dark Arts and discrimination based on blood purity, such as Tonks.
I don't care what people say about Slytherin. It's always been my house. I don't necessarily see being ambitious, shrewd, cunning and achievement-oriented as being bad. Nor is having a highly-developed sense of self-preservation - in fact, it means I tend to hesitate and weigh up all the possible outcomes before deciding what should be done. No rushing in headfirst live a foolhardy Gryffindor!
According to Albus Dumbledore, the qualities which Salazar valued in the students he chose included cleverness, resourcefulness, determination, and "a certain disregard for the rules."
Slytherins also tend to take charge and possess strong leadership skills, they are often self-assured and confident of their own competence, and can be very loyal.
I see all of these as being positive, strong, personality traits and definitely ones I see in me, ones I strive to be. But when you think about it, traits from the rest of the houses such daring, intelligence, and loyalty can also become easily negative
So yes, I am a proud, ambitious, resourceful, determined Slytherin.
(And yes, Opera spellcheck, Slytherin is a real word damnit!)
